The MOTU 828 mk3 is a hybrid audio interface boasting both USB 2.0 and FireWire connectivity and a plethora of advanced routing/mixing options too numerous to list in a single description. Additionally, the interface features 10 channels of 192kHz analog recording/playback alongside 16 channels of ADAT digital I/O and stereo S/PDIF.
The interface is also expandable via another MOTU audio interface or the 8pre input expander, and can be used independently from a computer as a standalone mixer with 28 inputs and 30 outputs.
The interface benefits from advanced tools allow users to several means of signal analysis: there’s a full-screen FFT display, waterfall display, spectrogram, oscilloscope, linear and polar analysis graphs, and a X-Y plot. If all that isn’t enough, the 828 can be used independently from a computer as a standalone mixer with effects. In terms of the latter, each of the 828’s 28 inputs enjoy access to digital reverb, EQ, and compression—which means users can mix, process, and monitor from one convenient location.
Other powerful features, like CueMix FX and the ability to support up to 8 stereo mixes make the MOTU 828 mk3 a welcome addition to any home or professional studio setup.
